Significant Czech sociologist and university professor

Professor of Sociology, in his youth as one of the founders of the avant-garde theater Divadlo na okraji (Theater on the Verge) tried-out acting, in the late nineties as a deputy of the Czech Parliament he also tasted politics. He also served as a visiting professor at a number of American universities. The History of Czech sociology wrote about him: "... at the early nineties, with the energy so typical for him, he brought Czech Republic into international comparative research projects." He represented the Czech Republic in the Council of Europe and in the OECD Educational Policy Committee, between 2007 and 2008 he was awarded the prestigious grant for participation in the prestigious project “New Century Scholars" sponsored by Fulbright Commission and the US Department of State. Today he is one of the most cited Czech sociologists, devoted to teaching and the research on social inequalities.
